The Unusual Suspects Theatre Company (US) is a recognized leader in the fields of arts education, mentorship and community building, having been a thriving force in the underserved neighborhoods of Los Angeles County for over two decades. Our participant-driven theatre-arts programs utilize arts education to mitigate the underlying family and community risk factors that threaten the healthy development of the 1,000+ children and adults we serve annually (90% in grades 5-12), including foster youth and incarcerated minors.
Education Through Music-Los Angeles puts music back into inner-city schools as part of the core curriculum for every child, where it belongs. Education Through Music-LA is serving nearly 12,000 students with weekly, yearlong music instruction. Music has the power to transform the lives of children and their communities, and to provide them with such lifelong benefits including self-confidence, problem-solving skills, teamwork, perseverance, concentration, and motivation to stay in school. Our methodology is successful because the "language" of animation is universal. It speaks to all ages and transcends cultural barriers. It is a powerful means of communication. We formed AnimAction in 1989, with a single purpose in mind: to utilize our professional expertise in creating a unique and innovative environment for young people; one where they could experience the spirit of collaboration, develop new skills, and exercise the ability to make their own creative choices.
Since 1997 24th STreet Theatre has been a leader in Arts Education, both in LA and nationally, by providing world-class theatre field trips, school residencies, and professional development workshops that teachers actually love! 24th STreet Theatre is a unique organization blending professional children’s theatre and world class Arts Education.
YMF’s mission is founded on the belief that every student, every person, should have access to the well- documented lifelong benefits that music and media arts education provide. As communities grapple with the profound social-emotional stress of the pandemic, students need the healing, connection, and stronger sense of self so unique to learning and making music more than ever.
Our School Partners Program serves as many as 10,000 Los Angeles pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students each year through student matinee performances and corresponding workshops for teachers. We also have in-depth partnerships with Wallis Focus Schools in underserved communities. These partnerships include matinee performances throughout the season, sessions with visiting teaching artists, arts career days and opportunities for students and parents to attend shows together.
UniverSOUL Hip Hop, LLC is a K-12 cultural educational group of international, award-winning artists and educators. We artfully blend the creativity of Hip Hop with the rigor of standards-based pedagogy and practices to provide cutting edge, interdisciplinary dance programs that cultivate lifelong learning, social fellowship, and 21st century success.
Theatre Of Hearts, Inc. was founded as a nonprofit corporation in 1987 to promote understanding between people through cultural and artistic forums and to empower local communities through education in the arts. In the wake of civil unrest in Los Angeles in 1992, Theatre Of Hearts initiated our Youth First Artist-In-Residence (AIR) Program. Our mission is to prevent and intervene in youth violence by involving underserved, at-risk youth, ages 4-18, in long-term high quality, multidisciplinary, standards-based arts educational workshops throughout Los Angeles County.
Since 1985, The L.A. Troupe, Theatre-in-Education has strived to promote an enhanced understanding of social, cultural, and community issues by engaging with students of all ages. We achieve this by creating age appropriate performances, workshops, and residencies which explore themes that resonate in contemporary society. Programs include the works of Shakespeare, Rostand, Homer, and Poe, as well as productions developed specifically for curriculum or community requirements.
The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (SJO) believes in the power of music to transform individuals, schools and communities. Created in 2002, the SJO is the only organization of its kind in the country, uniquely dedicated to blending the worlds of jazz and classical music with a mission to inspire and educate through its “Music in the Schools” residency program and free community concerts and to commission and perform symphonic jazz compositions in concerts across Southern California.
