Arts + STEM Collaborative

Vision

Arts + STEM is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the processes and content knowledge of the arts, science, technology, engineering and math, through project-based learning. As school districts reimagine ways to prepare students for a rapidly changing and globally connected world, this work especially timely.

Mission

Arts + STEM Collaborative is a regional consortium comprised of education stakeholders in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties to establish intersections between science, technology, engineering, arts and math in public school education.

Thanks to funding from the Boeing Company, the Arts + STEM Collaborative was established in 2013 to provide arts, STEM and education leaders throughout Southern California with the opportunity to share best practices and identify areas of convergence. The Collaborative's vision is to advance high quality Arts + STEM education so that students will be prepared to drive the innovative workforce of the future.

Goals

The Collaborative has established three goals:

  1. Identify high quality models throughout the region
  2. Define attributes of optimal Arts + STEM learning environments
  3. Collaboratively develop, implement and support Arts + STEM programming, including conferences and symposiums, region wide

Partners

Coordinated by the LA County Arts Ed Collective, the Orange County Department of Education and STEAM Connect, participants include representatives from government, higher education, business and nonprofit organizations.
